The internet holds a vast selection of Buddhist-themed listening. Below is a list of five podcasts to explore for teens and young adults.
- The Buddha Pod aims to provide a younger voice in the Buddhist community; a way to both reach out to young adults interested in Buddhism, as well as to allow them to participate in and contribute to a Buddhist space online.
- The Buddhism Guide by Karma Yeshe Rabgye is a podcast about Buddhism as a way of life, which means it is not based in the metaphysical world, but is easy to understand and practical. Young adults might find a wide array of discussions on practical questions like Why meditate?; How to deal with intense emotions?; or How to act out of compassion?. In addition there are introductory episodes on fundamental Buddhist concepts like the Four Truths and the Eightfold Path.
- Buddhist Boot Camp is the podcast of Timber Hawkeye. He offers a secular approach to being at peace with the world by means of putting teachings into practice and bringing them into daily life. We feel some young adults might be intrigued by this hands-on approach, and if so, we recommend starting the podcast series with the quick introduction on what Buddhist Boot Camp is all about.
- The Karmapa Podcast features selected talks and lectures by the Gyalwang Karmapa, many of which could be of interest to young people. The podcasts range from the more theoretical topics of, for example, understanding the Heart Surtra to the more everyday concerns of gender equality and effective activism and Buddhism and environmental protection.
- The Thich Nhat Hanh Dharma Talks features talks given by Thay and senior dharma teachers. Same as with the Karmapa Podcast, these talks introduce topics which might be interesting to some young people. An example of a major recurring theme is mindfulness, with talks on for example the art of mindful walking; collective mindful energy; and the nourishing power of conscious breathing.
