The Mind & Life Institute recently launched an online dialogue,  “Education of the Heart,” a multimedia site which presents insights and ideas from leading scientists, scholars, and educational practitioners who presented at the Mind & Life’s 33rd Dialogue with the Dalai Lama, “Reimagining Human Flourishing,” held in Dharamshala, India in March 2018.

The website offers an extensive selection of readings and resources, divided into chapters covering topics such as Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), mindfulness and awareness in education, the value of kindness and compassion in the classroom, and working with emotions. Within these chapters, you’ll find additional related resources including videos, academic articles, and research data.

Shugen Roshi on Equanimity, Emotions, and Walking Meditation!

This video recording (1hr) is of Shugen Roshi's talk at the Middle Way School in January 2024. Shugen sat with students and parents to talk about impermanence, one of Middle Way Education’s core units of inquiry. He focussed on the importance of cultivating equanimity in the context of recognizing the impermanent, always-changing quality of all things. He also fielded questions from parents and students, who wanted to know things like “how did the Buddha have fun?”
