About

Samtenling Monastery school was established in 1980 and holds the name Mahayana Buddhist Progressive Education Center. There are roughly a hundred monks at the monastery. The aim of the school is to provide a contemporary, secular education for the young monks. On the basis of this education some of the monks later go on to other Institutions for further studies within the Tibetan community. Students first learn basic Tibetan, English, and Nepali languages which are then necessary for other major subjects like history and composition.

Young monks have to memorize and practise all the prayers and ritual activities with Tibetan, English and Nepali languages taught from the primary to the senior level. Buddhism is regarded as one of the most important subjects for every monk. Hence, senior students study Buddhist philosophy and the science of Buddhist debate. Samtenling School thus provides both ancient and modern education with quality and facility.
