The Tsoknyi Gechak Ling Nunnery embraces education all the way through a nuns life.
The education begins with primary school, where currently over a hundred young girls receive a fully secular education. Nuns then proceed through a period of advanced education and must pass a test in order to enter the Shedra, which is a nine-year Buddhist college. Nuns receive training for Three Year Retreat and continue to receive teachings their entire life.
Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s vision is for some of these nuns to be teachers in their own right. Education has proved to be the single best deterrent to the tragic exploitation of girls in Nepal. Nuns are respected in their villages and by their society largely because of the education and advanced Buddhist studies they have received.
