“Buddhism Through Its Scriptures” is one of an extensive calendar of courses offered by dozens of universities around the world. This 4-week class requires an estimated 5 to 10 hours per week of work and study, and is open to all. Through it, the course page says, you will learn “Religious/philosophical insights conveyed in Buddhist texts; how scriptures are interpreted to diverse ends in different historical contexts; and sensitive appreciation of world religions.”
