MWS Spring Zen Event
May 19 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
MWS Open House with a Japanese theme.
Join Middle Way School on Saturday, May 19 for the fourth Middle Way School Open House. Zuisei Sensei of Zen Mountain Monastery will lead a short meditation for parents and children and speak about mindfulness, stillness, and attention. Children will then experience the beauty of a Japanese tea ceremony with Mountains and Rivers Order student Anne Rubin. Weather permitting, we will also move about our 5 acres of woods and gather materials for some free-form ikebana. Free. Children of all ages welcome. 10 a.m. to noon. Please RSVP by emailing email@example.com.
Vanessa Zuisei Goddard Sensei is a lay teacher at Zen Mountain Monastery, (ZMM) the mainhouse of the Mountains and Rivers Order. Zuisei was in full-time residential training from 1995 to 2014, fourteen of those years as a monastic. She is currently the monastery’s work supervisor and co-leader of the Zen Teens and Zen Kids programs at ZMM.
Our first open house in February featured sacred dance from Tibet. Last month we invited Vedantic philosopher Shubhraji to invoke the blessings of Saraswati. This month we are graced with the stabilizing presence of seasoned Zen practitioners. This is all part of Middle Way’s commitment to celebrating all forms of authentic Buddhist study and practice. While there are many rich cultural traditions that carry the dharma, the fundamental teachings of the Buddha remain the same. At MWS we are dedicated to presenting these as wholly as possible, not blending them into something unrecognizable but valuing these traditions.
